Clarence Jordan of Beragh

Clarence who suffers from spina bifida and has no voluntary movement from the waist down is an exceptionally brave young man .  He recently had a long spell in hospital away from his family and friends but coped admirably with the separation.  He was a model patient and showed great courage in dealing with this major disruption in his life.  Since staring Omagh College of Further Education in December, where he is   completing two modules, Clarence’s confidence, together with his  speech and life skills, has vastly improved.

Clarence has many hobbies, he enjoys going to the Boys Brigade, playing basketball, reading books, watching television, listening to music and using his computer. He is a very caring young many and is very concerned about his family; since his mother’s recent illness he has make a great effort to be independent, dressing himself and undertaking tasks such as emptying the bin, tidying up and getting everyone to help at home.  He shows great empathy for his mother in her position as a lone parent, he feels strongly that she should be given help to allow her a period each week to have time on her own or to meet friends.  Clarence is a pleasure to know and a wonderful ambassador for his peers.

Dylan Doherty of Strabane

Although  Dylan is confined to a wheelchair  he still, as much as possible, joins in  school activities with his peers.  He has bravely borne the pain of many medical procedures and operations, the discomfort of physiotherapy, heavy steroid medication and the daily frustration of learning to cope with a wheelchair at a young age.    Dylan is a keen water enthusiast  and has received certificates for his swimming prowess  as well as for his skills in computers, sports and music.   He is an avid Liverpool supporter and would like to travel to Anfield to see them play and to meet the players.  Dylan takes part in the out door games of his friends by being time-keeper, score-keeper or referee.  When he gets his new powered chair he feels he will be more independent and not need a carer at all times.  Dylan is a good humoured sociable young  man    who has a great sense of fun and amusement.
