Jim
& Iris Moore of Belfast
Jim has always looked after his sister Martha and on her death in January this year a light went out in Jim and Iris’s home – they are still trying to come to terms with her death. Martha may have been seventy seven years old but she had the mind of a child; she have severe learning difficulties and could speak in her own way but most times it was only Jim and Iris who could understand her. She lived with Jim and Iris for nearly twenty years and needed twenty four hour care which was given with love and devotion. Martha was treated with tremendous respect and dignity; Jim encouraged her to take responsibility for a small purse and always made sure she had money in it to spend when she wanted to. Each Easter and Christmas she bought all the children in the crèche in her church eggs and selection boxes and took great pleasure in giving them out herself. Jim and Iris never ever left Martha with anyone; they never took a holiday together without her; she loved the trips to Scotland and Enniskillen and never failed to bring back presents for everyone. Everyone loved Martha and she loved everyone – she did not know any other way to be as she only ever saw love at home.
